Warzoner

I was introduced to Warzone 2100 in February of 2004. Since then I have been completely hooked. There are very few RTS games on the market that combine great graphics, an amazing tech tree and such well balanced play.

Since then Warzone 2100 has become open source. This means the game is now totally free. You can down load a copy from this site from this link: Warzone 2100 version 0.2.2 OR you can get a copy from the offical site here.

After a long while I found a fantastic tech tree image. It has the entire tree in one very large picture. You can down load it here . The file is 1MB to download but it expands to a 22MB bitmap. If you print it out it will take some 50 A4 pages. It's huge, but its very useful. If you play the game much it is worth having a look at.

There are several good resources on the net that provide additional information about the game but one area I found missing was that the costing of emplacements and for each science upgrade isn't listed anywhere I could find. So I have created my own lists and made some comments on useful areas of research.

The other thing I find missing is a basic strategy guide for playing the computer in skirmish mode. Some people might think that this isn't necessary as when you play the game you learn as you go. I have to say that I have never played the game in anything but skirmish or network play against a human. I tried the game and got to the second level and got bored. So for people like me, here is my basic guide to playing a skirmish game against the computer. The ideal game settings that this guide is designed for are medium power, no base start, alliances on and up to 7 computer enemies. I recommend starting against 3 enemies and working your way up.

Once you have played the game a lot you may want to try some rule variations to make it challenging.

Finally, there are some things about the game that I have not worked out and would love someone to answer.
